Capital Project

Following several months of initial planning, presentations, and discussions with the District’s fiscal advisors, construction management team, architects, and other professional partners, the Romulus Central School District Board of Education voted on August 25 to move a proposed capital and energy project forward to our community for a public vote.
 
The community vote will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Romulus Central School.
 
An important component of this proposal is the significant grant funding available for the energy-related work. With this grant funding and the District’s financial planning, the proposed project is structured to have NO ADDITIONAL TAX IMPACT on District taxpayers.

What is included in the proposed project?

The proposed scope includes:
  • Installation of a closed-loop geothermal system, to support efficient building heating and cooling, supported by proposed grant funding
  • All hot water and heating run through geothermal
  • Interior renovations and improvements to the High School gymnasium locker rooms
  • Renovations and improvements to the Agriculture Technology suite to support our Agriculture program, FFA, and student graduation and career pathways
  • Renovations and improvements to the main entry office to enhance safety and code compliance
  • Installation of air conditioning on the second floor and other identified areas of the building
  • Replacement of leaking crawlspace piping and insulation
  • Improvements to crawlspace plumbing, ventilation, and moisture mitigation
If approved by voters, the project is anticipated to occur in two phases. We are still in the initial planning and design process, and there is a great deal of work that will occur before construction begins. As designs are finalized and actual construction costs become known through the bidding process, the District will work with our professional partners to prioritize the work and remain within the voter-authorized project budget. The geothermal portion of the project is a priority for phase 1 because of the grant funding associated with that work.
