Special Education

Every child learns differently, and every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. At Romulus Central School District, we partner with families to identify each student's strengths and provide the support needed to help them reach their full potential.

If you have concerns about your child's learning, development, or progress in school, Romulus Central School District is here to partner with you. We believe that families are essential members of the educational team, and we are committed to working collaboratively to ensure every student receives the support they need to be successful.

Through the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE), the district identifies students who may be eligible for special education services and develops individualized programs that address each child's unique strengths and needs. Eligibility for special education is determined through a comprehensive evaluation process in accordance with New York State and federal regulations. While not every student experiencing academic difficulty requires special education services, our team works closely with families to determine the most appropriate supports.

Whenever appropriate, students with disabilities receive instruction alongside their peers in the least restrictive environment (LRE). Our goal is to provide individualized services that help students grow academically, socially, behaviorally, and functionally while preparing them for future success.

Child Find

Romulus Central School District is responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating children ages 3 through 21 who reside within the district and may have a disability. This includes children attending public schools, private schools, and those receiving home instruction.

If you have concerns about your child's development or believe they may need additional support, we encourage you to contact our Office of Pupil Personnel Services. We are happy to answer your questions, explain the referral process, and work with you to determine the next steps.
