FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Greetings Romulus Families;

The first quarter of the school year has concluded and as we prepare for the holiday season and colder weather, I wanted to give you some information on a few topics.  Thank you for all that you have done to support the school and your students.  We appreciate the partnership.  Sometimes students can lose sight of their academics as the holiday season progresses and winter sports get underway.  Hopefully this letter will serve as a reminder about some of those academic challenges that students face in the second quarter.

As we move through the second quarter keep in mind that the 2nd quarter will end with midterm exams and Regents exams for some students.  It is important to make sure that your child is preparing for those exams as they make up 1/10 of the overall average for course credit. We will still be generating our eligibility lists at weeks 3, 5, and 7.  You should receive a ParentSquare from your child’s teacher at those dates if they are not passing a course.  If you receive one of those communications please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Balancing academics and other activities can be difficult but with proper organization and motivation a healthy balance can be found.  Students want to play sports.  Students want to be involved in musicals.  Students want to have jobs.  Students want to attend evening events.  All of those things are important in the development of young adults.  Finding the balance between those events and school work takes time and effort.  Make sure that you are checking grades, make sure that you are having your students open up their Google classrooms in front of you so that you can check their assignments, and make sure that you are contacting teachers when you have a concern.  Basketball games, working at the Big M, and dances are all important events for young people.  Teaching them how to balance those events is an important skill for young adults.

These reminders are just about school procedures which help make our school run efficiently.  All beginning and end of day pick ups should occur at the north end of the school.  If you enter the south driveway during those times you should follow the path behind the school and exit out of the north parking lot.  Please remember that any student who isn’t feeling well needs to see the nurse first before contacting  home for a ride.  It is important for the school to know when students  are not feeling well.

As we move through the 2nd quarter please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.  Make sure to make time together as a family because despite the belief amongst teenagers that they know everything, they really don’t and they really value your role as a parent.  Enjoy the wonders of the holiday season and make some memories.
